One of my favorite holiday traditions is decorating the house for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving.
When Micah was smaller, I used to be very meticulous about how our Christmas tree was decorated. Only a green tree, only clear lights, and the decorations had to be color coordinated and be spaced just the right way. As Micah grew older and wanted to help more, I would let him decorate and would reorganize the decorations after he'd gone to sleep. It would go from a tree decorated with love, to a tree that would look perfect for my social media posts. Sad, but true.
I no longer redecorate our tree. I let my boys do all the work while I sit back and admire their hard work, and the joy on their faces when it's completed. Besides, there may come a time when they think they're too cool or don't have time to help decorate for Christmas. I'm going to savor these holiday moments for as long as I can.
